Nexium 24HR 20 mg enteric coated tablets for the lasting symptomatic relief of frequent heartburn, acid regurgitation and other symptoms associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the Consumer Medicine Information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended dose is one tablet a day. - Do not take more than this recommended dose of one tablet (20 mg) a day, even if you don't feel an improvement immediately. - You may need to take Nexium 24HR for a few days before experiencing the full effect. - Nexium 24HR should be taken for at least 7 days and up to 14 days. - Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you do not feel better while taking Nexium 24HR. If symptoms persist or recur within 2 weeks of completing the course, consult your doctor. Further examination may be required.
Always read the label, use only as directed. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice any of the following and they worry you: nausea or vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, headache, wind, stomach pain, skin rash, itchy skin, dizziness or dry mouth. These side effects are usually mild. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop. Some medicines may interfere with Nexium 24HR. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you are pregnant unless your doctor says so. Ask your doctor about the risks and benefits involved. It is not known if it is safe for you to take Nexium 24HR while you are pregnant. It may affect your baby. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you are breastfeeding. Ask your doctor for more information. It is not known if Nexium 24HR is excreted in breastmilk if you are breastfeeding.
ContraindicationsNexium 24HR should be taken for 7 days with liquid first aid kit. If symptoms persist or recur, speak to your doctor; if they remain following 14 days or more, see your doctor. If a larger amount of blood are required for more than 14 days, speak to your doctor.
Driving or using machines
Nexium 24HR may cause dizziness or dizziness accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or cramps. Use a light sedative or reduce your risk for developing blurred vision or other symptoms of dizziness. Do not use:- for children under 18 years of age.- if allergic to esomeprazole.- if allergic to any other proton pump inhibitor (omeprazole, rabeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole).- if you are taking antiretroviral medicines, such as atazanavir.- if you are taking cilostazol a medicine used to treat pain and/or cramping in the lower leg (or arms) due to inadequate blood flow to the muscles.- if you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.- -f you are experiencing weight loss, persistent regurgitation of food or vomiting, difficulty swallowing or symptoms of gastro-intestinal bleeding, except on medical advice- if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant except on the advice of a doctor or pharmacist- if the expiry date printed on the pack has passed. This drug is indicated for the short-term relief of acid reflux symptoms (such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, nausea and/or vomiting, stomach ulcers). It is also used to prevent heart attacks and strokes. The side effects of this drug are similar to those of other proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole)

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any other proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole), if you have a stomach ulcer or if you have had an esophagitis (oesophagitis) (oesophageal ulceration), or if you have a bleeding disorder. These conditions may affect your treatment plan. If you have a stomach ulcer, you should avoid taking Nexium with omeprazole.
Inform your doctor about other prescription and non-prescription medications, including vitamins, supplements, herbal treatments, and dietary treatments. Do not start taking this drug early or suddenly without warning.
Do not use this drug if you are pregnant, might become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant or breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed. If you become pregnant or breast-feeding, tell your doctor right away.
Do not use esomeprazole during the third trimester unless your doctor decides it is time to have a male child (eg, after 28 weeks of pregnancy). Esomeprazole should not be used during pregnancy. Doctors may prescribe it for other uses, but it is not recommended for use during the first trimester.
